Collin Hetherington Joins EC as Assistant Director of Sports Information

ELMIRA, N.Y. -- Interim Director of Athletics Rhonda Faunce has announced the addition of Collin Hetherington to Elmira College's staff as the Assistant Director of Sports Information. Hetherington's tenure with the Soaring Eagles begins on Tuesday, August 2.

Hetherington joins the Soaring Eagles after spending the past two years in a similar role at the University of Charleston, a Division II institution in Charleston, West Virginia. With the Golden Eagles, he served as the primary media relations contact for a handful of Charleston's 18 varsity teams. His duties included graphic design projects, social media and website management, as well as gameday operations. During his two years in the Mountain State, Hetherington successfully nominated four CoSIDA Academic All-Americans, constructed history and record books for each team, and assisted with rebranding Charleston's athletics website, www.ucgoldeneagles.com.

"I am truly excited and thankful to be a part of the emerging athletic communications process here at Elmira," Hetherington explained. "(Director of Sports Information) Travis Larner and the search committee made the process as smooth as possible and made me feel at home from the second I stepped on campus."

"Collin's resume and graphic design portfolio immediately separated him from the rest of the candidates we interviewed," Larner said. "I'm confident he'll be a great addition to our staff and will play an extremely valuable role in the promotion and coverage of the talented student-athletes we have here at Elmira College."

Before his time in Charleston, Hetherington spent two seasons as a media relations intern for the Rochester Red Wings, the former Triple-A affiliate of the Minnesota Twins. With the Wings, Hetherington assisted in the production of team publications, served as a field timing coordinator, TrackMan operator, and a live stats contact for MiLB. His professional baseball experience also includes a summer in Houston, Texas, as a group and sponsorship sales intern with the Sugar Land Skeeters of the Atlantic League in 2017. While there, Hetherington was also responsible for in-game tasks, including the live stream of home games on YouTube, the coordination of group outings, and acted as a facilitator for the 2017 Southland Conference Baseball Tournament.

In addition, Hetherington spent time with the Rochester Knighthawks of the National Lacrosse League (NLL) during the 2016-17 season and volunteered at Buffalo Bills training camp during the summer of 2016.

Originally from Lee Center, New York, Hetherington is a 2019 graduate of fellow Empire 8 Conference member St. John Fisher College in Rochester, New York, where he earned degrees in both Sport Management and Economics. He co-founded the St. John Fisher's first National Club Baseball Association (NCBA) affiliated team, serving as the head coach, vice president, and finance director for the club from 2016-19. Hetherington graduated with a Master's of Science in Strategic Leadership from the University of Charleston in December 2020.
