Esports Names Captains for 2021-22 Season

ELMIRA, N.Y. -- With their third year of ECAC competition beginning on September 27, Zack Ciaramitaro '14, head coach of the Elmira College Esports team, has named three student-athletes as captains for the 2021-22 season.

Returning as a captain for the second consecutive year is Colin Conklin '23. Joining him is Josh Agresta '22, as well as Jared Money '22, the ECAC Esports VALORANT Co-Player of the Spring just a few months back.

Conklin, who competes in both Overwatch and VALORANT, are both first-person-shooter (FPS) titles. He earned VALORANT Player of the Week honors during the Spring 2021 season for his effort against Muskingum University while also earning All-Academic Honors for the Spring 2020 semester.

Colin's constant communication and composure is what keeps teammates calm and focused", Ciaramitaro said. "Colin can adapt to new situations that our opponents throw at him on the fly, and isn't afraid to lead the charge."

Money enters his first season in a captain's role and is a member of the Esports Fortnite, Rocket League, and VALORANT teams. Money, who earned honors as Fortnite Player of the Week in week 4 of the Fall 2020 season, as well as Player of the Year honors for VALORANT in the Spring 2021 season looks to continue off his previous success. In addition to his success on the sticks, Money earned All-Academic Honors for the Spring 2021 semester. In between the Fall and Spring seasons this past year, Money added Rocket League to his repertoire and became a starter in the Spring '21 season.

"Jared is not only a student of the games he plays, as he analyzes film and researches our opponent's; but he also has been a tremendous leader throughout his years on each team he's played for", Ciaramitaro stated. "Jared's ability to slow down the game and rally teammates around him is what sets him apart from the competition."

Agresta transferred to Elmira College last fall and made an immediate impact on the program. Competing in VALORANT, Overwatch, League of Legends and Super Smash Bros., his skillset ranges across the board. In addition to his advanced repertoire, Agresta also earned All-Academic Honors during the Fall 2020 semester.

"When he isn't in the classroom or doing homework, there's a good chance you can find him practicing in the Esports computer lab", Ciaramitaro said. "His dedication and desire to get better is unmatched."

Each of the captains for the 2021-22 season were members of the VALORANT team a season ago. The Soaring Eagles, who qualified for the VALORANT ECAC Playoffs in both semesters a season ago, were ranked the #7 seed during the Spring after going 5-2 in the regular season (8-week regular season but earned a bye one week based on record).

The opening week of competition for the Soaring Eagles begins on September 27.
