Soaring Eagles Sweep Season Series Against Keuka Following 56-49 Victory

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – Desiree Roy '25 notched her eighth double-double of the season as the Elmira College women's basketball program recorded its second straight Empire 8 victory following a 56-49 decision against Keuka on Saturday inside KC Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Following an opening bucket from Keuka, Alyssa Waters '22 drained a 3-pointer to give the Soaring Eagles an early lead against the Wolves. Back-to-back buckets from Taylor Albrecht '22 and Roy helped to give the Purple & Gold a 7-6 advantage with 5:29 to play in the first quarter.

Albrecht extended the lead to 11-6 following a layup at the 2:12 mark before the Wolves rallied to knot the score at 11-11 with less than a minute to play. Taylor Jung '25 would go to the free-throw line with 30 seconds left and connected on both shots to give EC a 13-11 lead.

Elmira held a 17-14 lead early in the second quarter before Keuka got things going offensively as the Wolves gained a 19-17 advantage with five minutes left to play. D'Asia Jones '25 capped a 6-0 run for EC with a layup to put the Soaring Eagles ahead 23-19. An 8-0 run by Elmira closed the quarter as Roy hit a layup in the paint with 35 seconds left to make it 31-22.

The Soaring Eagles opened the third quarter with a layup from Albrecht to increase the lead to 33-22. Despite leading by as many as 11 points, Keuka rallied to trim the deficit to 36-32 with 4:07 left to play. EC worked to increase the lead to eight points with less than three minutes to play as Jung drained a 3-pointer to make it 41-33. Jones rounded out the scoring in the frame for Elmira with a layup at the 1:03 mark to make it 43-36 in favor of the Purple & Gold.

Keuka stormed out of the gates to open the fourth quarter as the Wolves would eventually take a 44-43 lead before Roy ended the scoring drought for EC with a layup at the 5:20 mark. Nevaeh Winston '25 knotted the score at the charity stripe for the Soaring Eagles while Jung drained a trey to give EC the lead for good with 2:35 left to play.

The Wolves scored just three points over the final two minutes of play as Elmira secured the victory at the free-throw line with Roy sinking a pair of shots to give the Purple & Gold a 56-49 edge. Roy finished with 15 points and 15 rebounds for the Soaring Eagles, while Waters added 14 points and five steals. Albrecht and Jung each added 10 points for Elmira.
