Hawks Take Down Soaring Eagles 2-0 On Wednesday Night

ONEONTA, N.Y. --  The Elmira College women's soccer team dropped an Empire 8 conference tilt with the Hartwick Hawks 2-0 on Wednesday night under the lights at Elmore Field. The Soaring Eagles gave up a goal late in the first half to go down by one and battled throughout the second half for an equalizer before the hosts found their second with under four minutes to play. Sophomore goalkeeper Neveah Winston '25 made nine saves in the match for Elmira.

JUST THE BASICS:
SCORE: Elmira 0, Hartwick 2
LOCATION: Oneonta, N.Y.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
After defending a Hartwick corner kick just two minutes into the match, EC won a corner of its own in the 21st minute of play. The Soaring Eagles stayed on the attack as sophomore Rachel Bortnick '25 attempted a shot but it sailed high.

Five minutes later, the Hawks went on the attack, forcing Winston into action. Winston saved two Hartwick shots before the Hawks were able to break through in the 38th minute of play when Gianna Cacciola scored on an assist from Madi McGuire.

In the second half, the Purple & Gold fought off two Hartwick corner kicks right out of the break and looked for an equalizer in the 54th minute when freshman Ally Stilo '26 tested the Hawk's keeper.

With four minutes to go in the match, Hartwick would put the game away when Cacciola bagged her second goal of the game, this time on a breakaway one on one opportunity with Winston.
