Boucher Paces Women's Volleyball Past SUNY Delhi on Tuesday Evening

ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Elmira College Women's Volleyball team picked up a home non-conference win over the visiting Broncos of SUNY Delhi on Tuesday, 3-1. After playing back-and-forth volleyball which saw the Soaring Eagles take the first set, the Broncos would take the second in extra points (26-24) before EC won more comfortably in the final two frames.  

Maddie Boucher '24 finished the night with a double-double, recording 14 kills and 15 digs while Amelia Martin '23 and Samantha Garry '25 chipped in nine kills apiece. As a team, the Soaring Eagles held a narrow advantage in kills, assists, and digs, as the first three sets were all decided by five points or less.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
After some tight play through the first half of the set, the Broncos would open up a 6-3 run and eventually extend its lead to 18-12. The turning point in the set occurred with Boucher at the service position, as she served EC to seven consecutive points which included a pair of kills from the junior. Leading 19-18, EC would surrender a point before using a 4-0 run to take a 23-19 lead. From there, Elmira would eventually take the set 25-22, capped by a attacking error from Bronco Sage Renneisen. The set featured five ties and three lead changes, with the Purple & Gold holding the narrow advantage in kills, 9-8.
 
Elmira saw its best hitting percentage of the match come in the second set (.289%), out-killing the Broncos 16-14. Despite the advantage and a late-set rally, the Soaring Eagles would come up just short in extra time, falling 26-24.
 
The Soaring Eagles would run away with the final two sets, taking them 25-20 and 25-18, respectively. In the third, the teams would each record 14 kills, while Delhi had its best hitting set at .323%.
 
In the fourth, Elmira held the slim 16-15 advantage before scoring on eight of the next nine attempts to take a 24-16 lead. After a pair of points from the Broncos, Elmira would capture the 3-1 victory in the match.

The Soaring Eagles return home on Friday against the visiting Golden Flyers from Nazareth College as they wrap up Empire 8 play this weekend. First serve on Friday is set for 5:00 PM.
