PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Coming off of its first win of the season, the Elmira College field hockey program looked to continue the momentum on Wednesday night with an Empire 8 Conference matchup against St. John Fisher. The Cardinals would come away victorious by a final score of 9-0 from Growney Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Cardinals offense would test Elmira goalkeeper
MeganRae Burke '24 with a shot just over two minutes into the contest. St. John Fisher continued the early pressure and would take a 1-0 lead with a goal at the 4:26 mark of the first quarter. The Cardinals would eventually stretch their lead to 4-0 later in the frame before the Soaring Eagles would be awarded a penalty corner at the 13:17 mark.
Sarah Griffith '23 would register Elmira's first shot on goal in the contest at the 22:41 mark of the second quarter as her attempt would be denied by the Cardinals. The Purple & Gold would have their best stretch of offensive opportunities midway through the quarter as Griffith along with
Lindsey Smith '24 would each have their shots stopped by the Cardinals following a pair of penalty corners. The Cardinals scored three more times in the frame to take a 7-0 advantage into the half.
Following a goal by the Cardinals in the third quarter to increase their advantage to 8-0, EC's
Jenna Ellis '24 would deliver a shot on goal at the 43:08 mark that would be turned away by St. John Fisher. Trailing 9-0 late in the fourth quarter, Elmira's
Victoria Davis '24 followed up a penalty corner that would be taken by
Kylie Rosen '23 with a shot that would go just wide at the 55:52 mark.
Burke finished the contest with eight saves in goal for the Purple & Gold, while Griffith and Smith each registered a pair of shots offensively for Elmira.
