KEUKA PARK, N.Y. -- The Elmira College men's soccer team picked up its first Empire 8 conference win of the season with a 1-0 win over Keuka College on Saturday afternoon. The visiting Soaring Eagles broke the tie in the 55th minute on a goal from
Gavin Wise '22, assisted by
Ashraf Bonseu.
JUST THE BASICS:
SCORE: Elmira 1, Keuka 0
LOCATION: Keuka Park, N.Y.
TEAM RECORDS: Elmira (7-3-2, 1-2 E8), Keuka (1-7-2, 0-3-2 E8)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
In the first 11 minutes of play, Keuka ripped off two shots with one forcing EC goalkeeper
Zachary Raffino '23 into action. From that point forward the Purple & Gold defense put clamps on the Wolves, not allowing them to get another shot off the entire match. Elmira would go into halftime with five shots of their own but only one came on goal about midway through the half.
Ten minutes into the second half, Wise broke the deadlock with his third goal of the season for the Soaring Eagles. Bonseu found Wise for the goal, giving him his first collegiate assist. Elmira would finish with four corner kicks on the afternoon, while Keuka earned just one.
UP NEXT:
The Purple & Gold return to action on Wednesday, October 12 when they travel to Alfred University for an Empire 8 conference match with the Saxons. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
