ERIE, PA. – The Elmira College women's wrestling program placed fifth out of 12 teams at the 2022 NCWWC Northeast Regional Championships on Sunday afternoon at the Gannon Recreation and Wellness Center.
Elmira will send three of its wrestlers to the 2022 NCWWC National Championships in Adrian, Michigan on March 4-5.
Skylah Chakouian '25 captured the NCWWC Northeast Region 155-pound title, while
Tayana Labady '25 finished third at 191 pounds and
Merci Jessop '25 fourth at 123 pounds.

INDIVIDUAL RECORDS: Jessop (3-2), Monterrosa (2-3), Chakouian (3-0), Dahlquist (1-2), Ustaszewski (3-2), Labady (4-1)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Chakouian opened her tournament run with a bout against Tiffin's Aliya Martin. Leading 8-0, Chakouian would be able to turn Martin's shoulders and record a pin at the 2:35 mark. She followed with another pin to improve to 2-0 before matching up against Lock Haven's Jessica Johnson in the title match. Chakouian would notch her third pin of the day at the 2:38 mark to defeat Johnson and secure the regional title.
Labady would drop her opening match of the day against Sacred Heart's Ashley Reed before responding with four consecutive victories to secure a third-place finish. Labady got into the win column following a pin of Hiram's Joree Ybarra at the 20-second mark. Each of her next two consolation matches would come against opponents from Adrian College.
She delivered a 12-0 victory against Sienna Lejeune before adding a fall against Yamilex Perez. Her third-place finish would be cemented with a 12-2 victory at the 1:53 mark against Tiffin's Hollie Espinoza.
Jessop would face the same route as Labady after dropping her opening bout. She would tally three straight victories to advance to the third-place match before dropping a 12-0 contest against Albion's Samantha Parcell. Each of Jessop's victories would come via fall as she took down Lock Haven's Mackenzie Delvecchio, Del Valley's Ashley Cravo, and Adrian's Jaryn Strong.
Georgianna Ustaszewski '25 recorded a seventh-place finish for the Purple & Gold wrestling at 170 pounds. She opened her day with a pin against NJCU's Evielyn Tahmazian at the 48-second mark before dropping into the consolation bracket following a loss against Tiffin's Taryn Martin. Ustaszewski would go 2-1 over her next three bouts to secure seventh following a 10-4 decision against Hiram's Kinora Hayes.
Leslie Monterrosa '24 would bring home an eighth-place finish wrestling at 143 pounds for the Soaring Eagles after winning two of her first three matches on the day. She opened her tournament with a pin against NJCU's Patience Hevi at the 33-second mark before dropping into the consolation bracket. Monterrosa recorded another pin against Gannon's Caroline Camarillo before falling in consecutive bouts against Tiffin's Sidney Ramos and Adrian's Jasmine Hale.
Hazel Dahlquist '25 fell just short of finishing inside the top-8 wrestling at 170 pounds for the Soaring Eagles. Dahlquist would face Albion's Summer Mauk in her first bout and notched a fall at the 30-second mark to advance. She dropped into the consolation bracket following a pin by Sacred Heart's Jacklyn Smith and would have her tournament run brought to an end after being pinned by Hiram's Kinora Hayes.
