Elmira Finishes Regular Season Undefeated at the Murray Athletic Center With 4-1 Win Over Castleton

ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Elmira College Men's Ice Hockey team defeated the Spartans from Castleton University 4-1 on Senior Day. The Soaring Eagles used the day to honor the Class of 2022 (Nick Grinvalds '22, Marty Kapoian '22 and Matthew Stewart '22) as well as its 2021 class members (Chris Janzen '21, Ben Fleischman '21, and Adam Eby '21).

Elmira scored the game-winner in the beginning of the second period as Graham Denomme '23 scored on assists from Bailey Krawczyk '24 and Christian Abrams '25. Kapoian was able to cash in on Senior Day, scoring the final goal in Elmira's 4-1 victory.
With the win, Elmira finishes the 2021-22 regular season with a perfect 10-0-0 record at the Murray Athletic Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Jared Smith '24 got the scoring started just 90 seconds into the contest after scoring on an assist from Jordan Gonzalez '24. The rest of the period was quiet on the offensive end for the Soaring Eagles, as the Spartans knotted the contest at 1-1 at the 13:19 mark as Zach Trempner scored on an assist from Kyle Sargent.

Janzen finished the opening period with 13 saves while Castleton goalkeeper Dominic Rodrigue finished with 10.

In the second, Denomme would score the game-winner just 2:26 into the period on assists from Krawczyk and Abrams. For Denomme, it was his second game-winning goal of the season, which he also accomplished on December 11 at #1 ranked SUNY Geneseo.

The Soaring Eagles would add additional goals in the third period as Nicholas Domitrovic '24 scored on a power-play opportunity while Krawczyk was credited his second assist of the evening.

At the 13:24 mark, Kapoian would score on assists from Jake Russo '23 and Amedeo Mastrangeli '24 to conclude the scoring.

Janzen finished the game with 26 saves in net, while Fleischman finished the game with two saves in 5:25 minutes of action.

UP NEXT:
Elmira hits the road next weekend for the final weekend of regular season competition when they head to Norwich & New England College. Game time is set for 7:00 PM next Friday against the Cadets from Norwich.
