ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Elmira College women's wrestling program won four consecutive bouts to close its dual matchup against East Stroudsburg University on Monday night, but it would be the Warriors that secured a 20-18 victory inside Speidel Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Soaring Eagles looked to mount a rally in their dual against the Warriors after East Stroudsburg built a 20-0 advantage through the opening four bouts of the night. The Warriors notched a pair of pins at 123 pounds and 136 pounds to go along with a pair of victories via forfeit.
Leslie Monterrosa '24 started the comeback for the Purple & Gold wrestling against ESU's Avery Myers at 143 pounds. Monterrosa controlled the tempo for a majority of the bout and would battle Myers into the second period. Monterrosa secured the victory with a pin of Myers at the 5:26 mark to get Elmira onto the scoreboard.
Skylah Chakouian '25 followed with an electric bout against the Warriors' Avia Bibeau at 155 pounds. Chakouian turned the momentum in the match after executing a five-point suplex against Bibeau. She secured the victory against Bibeau with an 11-0 Tech Fall decision.
The 170-pound bout featured Elmira's
Hazel Dahlquist '25 and ESU's Bri Simsic. Dahlquist would come out aggressive and notch a pin just 45 seconds into the bout to secure the victory over Simsic.
Trailing 20-14 in the match,
Tayana Labady '25 would face the Warriors' Shola Cascen at 191 pounds. Labady continued a dominant string of bouts for the Purple & Gold by delivering a 10-0 Tech Fall victory against Cascen.
Both teams would forfeit at 101 and 109 pounds, while the Soaring Eagles would forfeit at 116 and 130 pounds on the night. East Stroudsburg would also be victorious in four exhibition matches that followed the six contested bouts of the night.
