EDWARDSVILLE, PA. – The Elmira College field hockey program traveled to the Keystone State on Thursday night for a season-opening contest against Wilkes University. The Soaring Eagles dropped a 4-0 decision despite getting a career-best 17 saves from
MeganRae Burke '24.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Elmira battled from the opening possession and would keep the Colonels off the scoreboard until late in the first quarter. Wilkes found the back of the net at the 13:01 mark to open the scoring as a shot from Morgan Millard beat Burke. Both sides would go scoreless to end the opening frame of action as Burke tallied five saves for EC.
The lone tally of the second quarter would come at the 19:11 mark as a shot from the top of the circle by the Colonels would sneak past Burke to make it 2-0. Wilkes would take a 2-0 lead into the half as Burke added four saves to her total on the night for the Soaring Eagles.
Wilkes fired a total of 14 shots in the third quarter and would put seven of them on frame as Burke stood tall to keep the Purple & Gold in the contest. The Colonels added their third goal of the contest at the 39:16 mark and would add another late in the fourth quarter to take a 4-0 advantage.
Burke recorded a pair of saves in the final frame and finished with a career-high 17 saves as she bested her previous high of 16 which came last season against Marywood University.
Sarah Griffith '23 recorded a pair of shots offensively for the Soaring Eagles in the contest, while
Dakota Bakke '26 made her collegiate debut for EC.
