PINE VALLEY, N.Y. – The Elmira College field hockey program opened the home portion of its schedule on Saturday as the Soaring Eagles welcomed SUNY Brockport to the Murray Athletic Center. HOW IT HAPPENED:
Both sides would play more than two minutes before the Golden Eagles registered the first shot of the contest as Burke would turn away a potential scoring opportunity. Brockport opened the scoring at the 6:34 mark of the first quarter as a shot from Katelynn Mello would beat Burke to make it 1-0.
Following the goal, EC would get a pair of penalty corner opportunities late in the quarter as
Kylie Rosen '23 and
Natalie Dolson '25 each had a pair of shots that would go just wide of the cage. The Soaring Eagles would deny a pair of scoring opportunities just as time expired in the opening quarter to keep the score 1-0.
Brockport tallied three goals in the second quarter to extend its lead to 4-0 over the Purple & Gold as Burke would make six saves in the process in net for EC. Burke made a pair of saves in the final minute of action after Brockport received a penalty corner with just over a minute to play.
Three more goals would follow for the Golden Eagles in the third quarter as Brockport pushed its lead to 7-0. Elmira looked to make a late push with positive momentum in the fourth quarter as the Soaring Eagles notched a pair of shots on goal and controlled the ball in the offensive zone. Rosen and
Jenna Ellis '24 tallied both shots on cage for the Purple & Gold in the frame.
Burke recorded 21 saves in the match and pushed her total number of saves on the week to 38 after turning away 17 shots on Thursday night against Wilkes.
