ELMIRA, N.Y. -- The Elmira College women's soccer team dropped their season opener 3-0 to visiting Ithaca College. The Bombers got on the board in the 24th minute goal with a goal from senior Rachel Richards. They would extend their lead in the 58th minute and later scored a third in the 79th.

JUST THE BASICS:
SCORE: Elmira 0, Ithaca 3
LOCATION: Elmira, NY
TEAM RECORDS: Elmira (0-1, 0-0 E8), Ithaca (1-0, 0-0 LL)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The first 20 minutes of play saw the Soaring Eagles battle as the Bombers won two corner kicks and ripped off six shots with three requiring saves from sophomore goalkeeper Nevaeh Winston '25.

In the 24th minute, junior Rosie Bostian sent a long through ball in the air to sophomore Julia Cascone who received it down the right side of the Elmira penalty area. Cascone's first attempt to cross the ball was deflected by Winston but she got it back and sent in another, this time finding the right foot of Richards. Richards would get enough on it to open the scoring 1-0.

Three minutes later, the Purple & Gold were awarded a throw-in from in front of the Bomber's bench and the ball fell to freshman Faith Ingber '26 just inside the top right corner of the 18-yard box. Ingber would have enough space to send in a shot with her left foot but it missed over the crossbar.

Ithaca started the second half strong winning three corner kicks and three shots on goal in the first 10 minutes of play. In the 56th minute, a misthrown ball from Winston was headed down by freshman Ava Detorie to Megan Buttinger who found herself one on one with the keeper. She would put the goal away to extend the Bombers' lead to 2-0. Later in the 79th minute, the Bombers made it 3-0 when sophomore Bailey Fisher redirected a corner kick from senior Delaney Rutan.
