Field Hockey Drops Close 2-1 Decision to Morrisville on Tuesday

Kylie Rosen '23 netted Elmira's lone goal on the evening

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Elmira College field hockey program dropped a 2-1 decision on the road on Tuesday evening, with Kylie Rosen '23 scoring a fourth quarter goal with under four minutes remaining. After Morrisville scored the opener in the 8th minute of play, Gabby Sennett would score a 27th minute goal which would go down as the game-winner in the low scoring contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Mustangs would open the scoring in the eighth minute of play as Jenna Wilbur scored off the feed from Emma Plett to put the home team ahead in the early-going. The score would remain 1-0 headed into the second as the Mustangs made three shots during the opening frame. 

In the second, Morrisville would score its second of the contest, this time the game-winner as Gabby Sennett would score a 27th minute goal after finishing past the right post, unassisted. Headed to the half, the Mustangs held the 2-0 advantage as MeganRae Burke '24 made just three saves in the half which would go down as her eventual game total. 

After a scoreless third quarter which saw just one shot on net between the teams, EC would score late in the fourth after Kaitlyn Bailey '25 found Kylie Rosen '23 following a penalty corner opportunity. The final three and a half minutes saw no additional action from either side, with Morrisville holding onto the 2-1 victory. 

Burke finished the game with just three saves on a total of four on-goal shots, while the Soaring Eagles led the penalty corner battle, 13-2. 

UP NEXT:
Elmira jumps back into conference play on Saturday as it makes the trip up to Buffalo to square off against newly-appointed Empire 8 member, Medaille University. Game time is set for 2:00 PM.
