KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – The Elmira College Women's Basketball team extended its Empire 8 winning streak to five games this afternoon after defeating the Wolves from Keuka College, 45-37. After a shaky start that saw the Soaring Eagles score just two first quarter points and a deficit at halftime, Elmira was able to outscore the Wolves 20-9 in the final quarter en route to victory.
Desiree Roy '25 paced Elmira with 18 points and six rebounds, while Laura Bogota '25 chipped in seven points and a trio of assists. The Soaring Eagles led the turnover battle, forcing the Wolves into 22 which led to 15 points off turnovers. Elmira, who records 14.3 steals per contest, ranks 1st in the Empire 8 in the category, and 16th nationally.
The first quarter saw the Wolves outscore EC 6-2, with Elmira shooting just 1-of-13 from the floor in the frame. Offense would pick up for both sides in the second, but Keuka held the 15-11 advantage which allowed the home team to carry an eight point lead into the break.
In the second half, the script flipped in Elmira's favor after outscoring Keuka 12-7 in the frame. Trailing by just three heading into the fourth quarter, Elmira would score the first seven points of the final frame and never look back en route to its 20-9 advantage in the frame.
For the contest, Elmira would shoot 30.8% from the field (16-of-52) compared to a 13-of-51 effort for the Wolves. The Purple & Gold would outscore Keuka in second-chance points 10-4, while also holding a 13-5 advantage in fastbreak points.
