Women’s Wrestling Dominate In 39-5 Dual Victory Against Delaware Valley

ELMIRA, N.Y. – Making her debut for the Elmira College women's wrestling program, Lacey Hinman '26 recorded her first victory as the Soaring Eagles defeated Delaware Valley 39-5 on Wednesday night inside Speidel Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Elmira opened the match against the Aggies with forfeit victories at 101, 109, and 116 pounds to take a quick 15-0 advantage on the scoreboard. The Aggies would follow with their lone victory of the night via a forfeit at 123 pounds. Both sides would forfeit 130 pounds before Elmira was victorious via forfeit at 136 pounds.

Leading the match 20-5, Leslie Monterrosa '24 would be the first EC wrestler with a contested bout at 143 pounds as she would face Lilly Kinder. Monterrosa would beat the clock late in the first period as a turn would put Kinder on her shoulders allowing Monterrosa to secure the pin with 15 seconds remaining.

Skylah Chakouian '25 would square up against Gigi Lee from Delaware Valley at 155 pounds. Chakouian jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead in the bout and would notch a tech fall victory after going up 10-0 with 1:31 left in the first period. The victory would increase the EC lead in the match to 29-5.

The final bout that would be contested featured Hinman and the Aggies' Caira Jaynes at 170 pounds. Hinman controlled the tempo of her bout from the opening whistle against Jaynes and would need only 50 seconds off the clock in the first period to turn Jaynes onto her shoulders and notch the pin for her first victory for the Purple & Gold.

The scoring would be completed following a forfeit by Delaware Valley at 191 pounds to secure Elmira's 39-5 victory. Skylynn Tomlinson '26, Kaitlyn Potter '26, Abby Duke '26, Gabby Bradigan '26, and Tayana Labady '25 each recorded forfeit victories on the night for the Soaring Eagles.
