ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Elmira College men's basketball picked up a much needed victory inside of Speidel Gymnasium on Tuesday evening, defeating the visiting Mavericks from Medaille University, 74-64. After shooting 50.0% from the floor (14-of-28) in the opening half while holding the opposition to just a 31.3% clip, the Soaring Eagles played even basketball with the Mavericks in the final half of play on its way to victory. 
Marc Anthony Artuz '24 would score the first five points of the game for the Soaring Eagles in just his second start of the season, as the junior finished the game with 18 points and five boards. Riley Spencer '26 put together one of his best nights from the floor this season, posting 20 points on 7-of-9 shooting, which included a 4-of-5 effort from downtown. 
Elmira turned the ball over seven times in the first half (16 for the contest), and were outscored 20-9 in points off turnovers. Despite the deficit, the Soaring Eagles held the Mavericks at bay from deep, where the visitors went just 9-of-32 (28.1%). Alternatively, Elmira would shoot its best percentage of the season from long-range (53.8%), converting the same number of shots on nearly a third of the attempts. 
In all, Elmira recorded its single-game best in steals (11), free throws (23), and defensive rebounds (23), while JJ Babcock '26 recorded nine points in his first game since January 14 at Keuka.
