Field Hockey Falls at Home Against St. John Fisher

PINE VALLEY, N.Y. – The Elmira College field hockey program returned to Empire 8 Conference action on Wednesday as the Soaring Eagles came up short against the St. John Fisher University Cardinals, 8-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Cardinals opened the scoring less than two minutes into the contest and would register three more tallies in the first quarter to grab a 4-0 lead against the Soaring Eagles.
  • Elmira College goalkeeper MeganRae Burke '24 recorded eight saves in the first quarter and would follow that up by making 17 saves in the second quarter for the Purple & Gold.
  • A goal just over 17 minutes into the contest would give the Cardinals a 5-0 lead as that would hold as the halftime score.
  • The Soaring Eagles would get some offensive opportunities in the fourth quarter as Caitlin Ehlenfield '27 had a shot blocked at the 45:31 mark. EC would later have a penalty corner that led to a shot on goal by Ehlenfield at the 46:25 mark.
  • All three goalkeepers would see time on the field for the Soaring Eagles as Burke registered 26 saves, while Sandra Vaughn '27 and Reese Bowen '27 each recorded one save for the Purple & Gold.
 
UP NEXT: The Soaring Eagles are on the road this weekend for an Empire 8 Conference matchup against Russell Sage College on Saturday beginning at 1:00. The contest will be played at Harkness Field on the campus of RPI.
