Knox Records Two Defensive Saves as Field Hockey Falls at Sage

TROY, N.Y. – Three different Soaring Eagles registered a shot on goal as the Elmira College field hockey program dropped a 12-0 decision on Saturday in an Empire 8 Conference matchup against Russell Sage College.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • It would be all Gators in the first quarter of the contest as Sage opened the scoring 1:39 into the contest. The Gators added five more goals to take a 6-0 advantage into the second quarter.
  • Elmira would get its first penalty corner and shot of the contest in the final minute of the second quarter as Mackenzie Malone '27 had her shot blocked by the Sage defense. The Gators tallied four more goals in the period to take a 10-0 lead into the half.
  • The Soaring Eagles would get things going offensively with some pressure in the third quarter as Indigo Smallwood '27 had a shot denied by the Sage goalkeeper following a penalty corner at the 37:15 mark.
  • Madison Fleming '27 followed with another shot on goal for the Soaring Eagles that would be stopped by the Gators at the 37:26 mark. Smallwood would also have another shot blocked later in the quarter by the Sage defense.
  • Caitlin Ehlenfield '27 and Jenna Ellis '24 would both take a shot on goal in the fourth quarter for the Purple & Gold. Ehlenfield had her shot blocked at the 47:03 mark, while Ellis had her opportunity denied by the goalkeeper at the 48:18 mark.
  • All three goalkeepers would see time on the field for the Soaring Eagles as MeganRae Burke '24 registered seven saves through 45 minutes played, while Sandra Vaughn '27 recorded a pair of saves. Reese Bowen '27 played the final 6:44 of the contest for the Soaring Eagles. Jazmine Knox '26 finished the contest with a pair of defensive saves for the Soaring Eagles.
 
UP NEXT: The Soaring Eagles hit the road next Wednesday for an Empire 8 Conference matchup against Houghton University beginning at 5:00 P.M.
