Second-half Goal Pushes Utica Past Women’s Soccer, 1-0

ELMIRA, N.Y. – A goal in the 76th minute of action was the difference on Wednesday as the Elmira College women's soccer program dropped a 1-0 decision at home against Utica University in an Empire 8 Conference matchup.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Soaring Eagles would be unable to convert on four corner kicks in the opening half as Tierney Krawczyk '27 and Emily Andersen '26 both had their scoring opportunities denied by Utica.
  • Utica recorded a pair of shots on goal in the opening half of action as Elmira goalkeeper Nevaeh Winston '25 denied a pair of shots by the Pioneers in the 16th and 30th minutes.
  • Piper Andrews '26 was responsible for both of Elmira's shots on target in the second half. Her first attempt was denied in the 66th minute, while her second opportunity was turned away in the 69th minute.
  • The Pioneers were denied on each of their first two scoring opportunities in the second half as Winston denied shots in the 67th minute and later in the 70th minute of action.
  • Utica would take a 1-0 lead in the 76th minute following a foul against the Soaring Eagles that would lead to a free kick. Rylee Lamphere used the right goalpost to bank her shot past Winston to put the Pioneers ahead on the scoreboard.
  • Despite holding a 15-8 overall advantage in shots, Utica finished with a slim 5-4 advantage in shots on goal.
 
UP NEXT: The Purple & Gold return to Campus Field on Saturday for an Empire 8 Conference matchup against Nazareth University at 12:30 P.M. The Soaring Eagles will honor the Class of 2024 before the start of the contest.
