Early Lead Slips Away For Men’s Hockey In 6-2 Loss Against Castleton

RUTLAND, VT. – The Elmira College men's ice hockey program tallied a pair of special-teams goals before seeing Castleton University rally for five unanswered goals in the second and third periods to secure a 6-2 victory over the Soaring Eagles on Friday night in a New England Hockey Conference matchup.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Chance Gorman '24 continued his goal-scoring streak early in the contest for the Purple & Gold as he would deliver a strike on the power play at the 9:56 mark to put Elmira ahead on the scoreboard 1-0. Gorman's tally would be assisted by Jake Russo '23 and Nick Parody '23 and would be the lone goal scored by either side in the opening frame.

After taking an early penalty to open the second period of action, the Soaring Eagles would go on the attack while down a skater against the Spartans. Bailey Krawczyk '24 would light the lamp with a short-handed strike for the Soaring Eagles less than two minutes into the second period to make it 2-0.

Castleton would trim the deficit to 2-1 in the contest with a power-play goal less than a minute after Elmira gained a two-goal advantage. The Spartans knotted the score 2-2 at the 6:32 mark before taking a 3-2 lead with less than a minute remaining in the second period. The Spartans would add three more goals in the third period en route to capturing a 6-2 victory at home against the Soaring Eagles.

Kyle Curtin '26 made 22 saves and suffered the loss between the pipes for the Soaring Eagles, while Brody Haynes '26 would take over for Curtin with 11:22 left in the third period and stopped seven shots to close out the contest.
  
UP NEXT:
The Purple & Gold return to the ice for a matchup against Skidmore on Saturday at 4:00 P.M. before returning home to the Murray Athletic Center for the final weekend of the regular season.
