Best Shooting Night of the Season Paces Soaring Eagles Past Hawks

ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Elmira College women's basketball team picked up its second consecutive Empire 8 Conference victory on Friday evening, defeating the hosts from Hartwick College, 67-48. The Soaring Eagles would use a 14-point advantage in the 2nd and 4th quarters combined to come away with its 19-point victory.

In the win, the Soaring Eagles would be paced on the offensive end by Desiree Roy '25, who finished with 22 points and six rebounds in 34 minutes of play, while Nevaeh Winston '25 rounded out the Elmira scoring leaders with 14 of her own. 

Elmira, who would go on to shoot 50.0% from the floor (season-high), shot 53% in the final half while using a six-point advantage in points off turnovers to pick up the win. 

The Soaring Eagles would have four players earn over 30 minutes of playing time, as Roy, Winston, Alleney Klunk '24, and Laura Bogota '25 rounded out the lineup for the majority of the contest. After outscoring the Hawks 15-11 in the first, the Soaring Eagles would go on to extend its lead to 11 at the break following a game-high 19 points in the second quarter. 

From there, Elmira would hold the slim 18-17 advantage in the third before holding Hartwick to a game-low eight points in the final period of play. The Soaring Eagles, who grabbed eight offensive rebounds of their own, were outplayed in second-chance points (21-4), but earned its points in the paint where they held the ten-point advantage.
