Women’s Wrestling Goes 3-0 On Sunday At NJCU Quad Match

JERSEY CITY, NJ. – The Elmira College women's wrestling program made a successful trip to Jersey City on Sunday as the Soaring Eagles won three matches, including a 33-10 decision against No. 13 NJCU at the New Jersey City University Women's Wrestling Quad Match.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The first dual of the day for the Soaring Eagles would come against Alvernia as Taylor Goguen '26 recorded an 11-1 tech fall victory wrestling at 101 pounds for the Purple & Gold. Ariyanna Orosco '26, Kaitlyn Potter '26, and Abby Duke '26 would each follow with forfeit victories to help stake Elmira to a 19-1 advantage in the match against Alvernia.

Following a double forfeit from both sides at 130 pounds, Gabby Bradigan '26 and Leslie Monterrosa '24 would both receive forfeit wins for the Purple & Gold. Skylah Chakouian '25 would get a bout for Elmira at 155 pounds and would notch a 10-0 tech fall victory to extend the match lead to 33-1. Hazel Dahlquist '25 and Tayana Labady '25 both closed the match with forfeit wins to secure the 43-1 victory for the Soaring Eagles.

In the second dual matchup of the season between Elmira and No. 10 NJCU, the Soaring Eagles would once again come out victorious against the Gothic Knights. Skylynn Tomlinson '26 opened the match at 101 pounds with a 16-5 tech fall win to give EC a 4-1 lead. Abby Duke '26 recorded a 10-0 tech fall victory wrestling at 116 pounds to put EC ahead 8-5 after the Gothic Knights were victorious at 109 pounds.

Bradigan would notch a huge victory for the Purple & Gold wrestling at 136 pounds as her pin of Kayla Zeppetelli at the 3:52 mark would give Elmira a 13-10 lead in the match. Monterrosa followed at 143 pounds with a fall in less than a minute to give the Soaring Eagles an 8-point edge in the match score. Elmira closed the match out with forfeit victories by Chakouian, Tammy Nguyen '26, and Labady.

The final match of the day would see the Soaring Eagles match up against Cedar Crest College for the first time in program history. Elmira opened the match with forfeit victories by Tomlinson and Orosco at 101 and 109 pounds to take a 10-0 lead. Potter would have the first contested bout at 116 pounds and pinned her opponent in 1:22 to give the Soaring Eagles a 15-0 lead. Duke followed with a 10-0 tech fall victory at 123 pounds for EC before Cedar Crest would get five points with a forfeit victory at 130 pounds.

Monterrosa would notch her second pin of the day for Elmira at 143 pounds, while Chakouian followed with another 10-0 tech fall victory at 155 pounds for the Purple & Gold. Bradigan, Nguyen, and Labady also notched forfeit victories for the Soaring Eagles to help secure the 43-5 win.
