ELMIRA, N.Y. – College Sports Communicators, formerly known as CoSIDA, announced its 2023 Softball Academic All-District honors on Wednesday afternoon, with Madison Brown-Bloom '23, Kaitlyn Belmont '24, and Amelia Martin '23 each earning recognition from the organization.
Brown-Bloom, a native of Barrington, New Hampshire, recently completed her senior season with the program as a Biology major. A mainstay on the Dean's List, E8 President's List, and NFCA Academic Honor Roll, Brown-Bloom earned Empire 8 Third Team honors this week after setting the single-season program record for RBI's, with 29. Additionally, Brown-Bloom posted a batting average of .324, which ranked second behind Martin along with 34 hits, 18 runs scored, four triples, and a slugging percentage of .457. A recipient of the 2023 Board of Trustees Prize, the Mildred Whittlesey McGraw Attainment Prize in 2022, and the Corning Section of the American Chemical Society Award in 2021, Brown-Bloom also serves as the Co-President of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
Belmont, a native from Carmel, New York and a Nursing major, helped anchor the Soaring Eagle infield this season and earned Third Team honors from the Empire 8 after a breakout junior season where she made just six errors on 153 chances at shortstop (.965 fielding percentage). In addition to her defensive ranks, Belmont was a .322 hitter, where she posted a career-best in runs (31), hits (38), doubles (10), home runs (3), RBI (24), slugging percentage (.500), and stolen bases (5).
Martin, a Speech & Hearing major, made her mark while donning the Purple & Gold for the past two seasons. A senior from Athens, Pennsylvania, Martin would tab her second consecutive selection (2nd Team, 2022) in the outfield after hitting .336 over 39 games this season with 41 hits. Her single-season program offensive ranks continued, as she finished 1st in RBIs (30), 2nd in doubles (11), 4th in runs (28), T-4th in home runs (5), 8th in slugging percentage (.582), and 10th in stolen bases (11). In addition to her offensive numbers, she was tabbed with just one error on 69 chances for a fielding percentage of .986%.
The 2023 Academic All-District® Softball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes softball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA — for each gender.
Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early June. The CSC Academic All-District® teams include the student-athletes listed on the following pages.
