Men's Soccer Plays to Second Scoreless Draw in Empire 8 Action

ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Elmira College men's soccer program played to a scoreless draw on Saturday afternoon against visiting Empire 8 foe St. John Fisher University at Campus Field. The contest featured three shots on goal between the two teams, with Elmira holding a 2-1 advantage.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The visiting Cardinals would record the first shot that would make its way on frame in the eighth minute of action as Matt Gentile had his opportunity denied by Elmira goalkeeper Juan Carlos Cruz Gandia '27.
  • Elmira followed with its first shot of the contest that would be turned away by the Cardinals in the 11th minute as Jhoan Chavez '26 looked to beat St. John Fisher goalkeeper Jadon Schlierf in the top left corner.
  • The second scoring look of the half for the Soaring Eagles would come in the 33rd minute as Juan Ortegon '27 took his attempt at beating Schlierf in the top left corner only to be denied by the Cardinals goalkeeper.
  • Neither team would put a shot on frame in the second half of the contest as Elmira tallied five shots that would just miss the cage, while the Cardinals recorded a pair of shots that would go wide.
  • Elmira finished the contest with an overall shots advantage of 12-4 and held the edge in corners against the Cardinals 9-5.
  • Cruz Gandia recorded his second consecutive clean sheet in goal for the Purple & Gold and his third of the season, with all three coming in scoreless draws for Elmira.
