Clark and Boucher Combine for 24 Kills as Women's Volleyball Drops E8 Opener

ELMIRA, N.Y. – Maddie Boucher '24 and Makenna Clark '25 combined to record 24 kills for the Elmira College women's volleyball program on Friday night as the Soaring Eagles dropped their Empire 8 Conference opener against Nazareth, 3-0, inside Speidel Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Both sides would trade the lead early in the first set as the Soaring Eagles used a pair of back-to-back kills from Boucher to grab a 5-4 advantage against the Golden Flyers. A 3-0 run later in the set by Nazareth would be answered with a 3-0 run from Elmira as the Purple & Gold trimmed the deficit to 10-9.
  • Leading 11-10 in the first set, Nazareth used an 8-1 stretch through the middle portion to gain a 19-11 lead against the Soaring Eagles. A late rally by EC with kills coming from Allison Hasty '26, Morgan Richardson '25, and Boucher would trim the deficit to 19-15 before the Golden Flyers closed the set with a 25-17 victory.
  • Elmira would fall behind 8-3 early in the second set before going on a 6-1 run to knot the score 10-10. Consecutive service aces from Asia Curkendall '25 would help to pull the Purple & Gold even with Nazareth. The Golden Flyers countered with a 5-0 run that would shift the momentum and eventually secured the 25-17 victory despite a pair of late kills from Clark as the Soaring Eagles looked to extend the set.
  • Trailing 20-12 in the third set, the Soaring Eagles put together their best offensive stretch of the match as a 3-0 rally trimmed the deficit to 20-15. Following a point by the Golden Flyers to make it 21-15, Clark started a 6-0 rally for the Soaring Eagles as Elmira clawed its way back into the set to knot the score 21-21.
  • The run by the Soaring Eagles featured a pair of kills from Clark, along with two service aces from Gabriela Rodriguez '26. Nazareth would not fall behind on the scoreboard, as the Golden Flyers found their rhythm and used a 4-0 rally to secure the set 25-21 and a 3-0 sweep in the match.
  • Boucher and Clark each finished the match with a double-double for the Soaring Eagles as Boucher tallied 12 kills and 10 digs, while Clark recorded 12 kills to go along with a match-high 13 digs.
