Elmira Women’s Soccer Gets First Win in Home Opener Against SUNY Cobleskill, 2-0

ELMIRA, NY. – The Soaring Eagles bounced back from a season opening loss with a win in front of their home crowd on Sunday afternoon. Two second-half goals from Sarah Wagner '24 and Piper Andrews '26 were all Elmira would need to see out the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The first half saw both teams scoreless at the break with Elmira having the majority of the shots with six, compared to two for Cobleskill.
  • Elmira would break the deadlock in the 71st minute thanks to a penalty won by Emily Andersen '26 on the edge of the penalty box, which Sarah Wagner '24 calmly converted to give the Soaring Eagles the lead.
  • The next goal came less than 10 minutes later when Piper Andrews '26 rippled the back of the net on the cutback from Tierney Krawczyk '27, giving the Purple and Gold a two-goal cushion in the 80th minute. This marked Andrews' second goal in two games for Elmira.
  • The Soaring Eagles would close out the game over the last 10 minutes, cruising to a 2-0 win.
  • Elmira limited the Fighting Tigers to just three shots in the game with only one on target. EC would register 17 shots with eight on target.
  • Renee Bickham '27 led the team with three shots on goal.
  • Goalkeeper Nevaeh Winston '25 played the full 90 minutes, registering one save and keeping Cobleskill from finding the back of the net.
