Elmira Captures Second Win of the Weekend Against Keuka, 68-49

ELMIRA, N.Y. – Elmira women's basketball stayed at home for a match against the Wolves of Keuka College on Saturday afternoon. After falling behind in the first period 17-10, a ten-point performance by Mia Welty '26 in the second period helped Elmira outscore Keuka 18-2. The Soaring Eagles would hold onto their lead over the remaining 20 minutes of play and pick up their second-consecutive victory.

Welty finished the game leading Elmira scorers with 17 points. She went 6-9 from the field while going 5-6 from distance to give her a season-high in points scored.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Soaring Eagles conceded a three-pointer on the first possession of the game, but responded a minute later with a three by Alleney Klunk '24 to tie the game. Laura Bogota '25 scored Elmira's next four points on a pair of layups, but the Wolves built a 14-7 lead with 2:20 left in the opening frame before a Welty three-pointer snapped a five-point unanswered run by Keuka with 16 seconds left. However, the visitors hit a buzzer-beater three to take a 17-10 lead into the second.
  • The second quarter was dominated by Welty, with the second-year guard scoring 10 points in the quarter, including making three shots from behind the arc. In total, the Soaring Eagles outscored the Wolves 18-2 in the second, turning a five-point deficit into a nine-point advantage, and took a 28-19 lead going into the half.
  • The Purple & Gold started off the third in control, going on a 9-2 run in the first three minutes, with Bogota scoring four points on two consecutive layups. A Klunk jump shot and Taylor Jung '25 three-pointer brought Elmira's lead to 42-24 with 5:39 remaining in the quarter. Klunk added a three of her own before a Nevaeh Winston '25 layup put Elmira up 21 in the final four minutes of play. Five points from D'Asia Jones '25 to close out the quarter gave Elmira a comfortable 55-33 lead entering the final ten minutes of action. 
  • The final quarter saw the Soaring Eagles maintain control of their lead, hitting five free throws, with Victoria Rought '25 scoring six points from the field and Sophia Ward '27 adding a layup, to bring Elmira's point total in the quarter to 13. Despite 16 points from the Wolves in the quarter, Elmira kept hold of its lead and beat the Wolves by a final of 68-49.
  • EC outscored Keuka 45-16 in the middle two quarters while shooting 50% from the field.
