HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Elmira got its first points on a three-ball from Bogota that tied the game in the first minute and a half of play. Bogota followed her three-pointer with a pair of makes from the line on the next possession, giving the Soaring Eagles an early 5-3 lead. However, the Highlanders scored the following seven points to take a 10-5 lead. After Bogota broke that streak with two more free throws, Houghton drained another shot from beyond the arc and took a 13-7 lead into the second quarter. Bogota scored all seven points for Elmira in the opening frame, with her three-pointer being EC's only field goal in the quarter.
  • Victoria Rought '25 started the second quarter with a made layup, bringing the deficit down to four. From that point, Houghton again went on a run, scoring 11 unanswered points and building its lead to 24-9 with 6:22 left in the second. Bogota and Alleney Klunk '24 hit on consecutive possessions to snap Elmira's scoring drought. The Soaring Eagles got baskets from Mallory Welty '26 and D'Asia Jones '25 in the final two minutes of the quarter. However, Elmira could not significantly cut into Houghton's advantage, and EC went into the half down 38-19.
  • A shot from distance by Taylor Jung '25 after a Winston offensive rebound gave the Soaring Eagles the start they wanted on the first possession out of the break. However, the momentum would not last, as Houghton once again scored 11 unanswered points, giving it a 49-22 lead with three minutes gone in the third. Bogota and Jung hit on back-to-back Elmira possessions, trading points with the Highlanders before the Soaring Eagles scored their following six points unanswered. Winston contributed by finishing a three-point play. Winston scored four more points in the quarter, giving her a team-leading seven points in the third, but Elmira still trailed 63-39 going into the final ten minutes.
  • Elmira only scored four points in the final quarter, with Welty and Sophia Ward '27 hitting layups. The Soaring Eagles went scoreless for the last six minutes of the game, and the game ended in an 82-43 defeat to Houghton.
