ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Elmira College women's basketball team avenged its 16-point loss from a month ago on Saturday afternoon, knocking off the Gators from Russell Sage in a much needed victory for the Soaring Eagles. On Senior Day where the Purple & Gold honored senior guard Alleney Klunk '24, the Soaring Eagles would hold the Gators to just single-digit scoring in both the second and third quarters, which included a 22-9 advantage in the second after trailing in the first quarter.
Nevaeh Winston '25 would lead all Elmira scorers with 14 points, six rebounds, a pair of blocks, and a pair of steals, while Klunk finished with 12 points. Laura Bogota '25 and D'Asia Jones '25 would score nine and eight points, respectively, while Taylor Jung '25 provided a stat line of seven points, ten rebounds, four assists, three blocks, and a steal.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Gators would hold a 14-8 advantage after the first quarter in which Elmira would shoot just 3-of-13 from the floor compared to 4-of-11 for Sage. The Gators would earn a trio of trips to the line, where they converted on 5-of-6 attempts compared to a 2-of-2 effort for Elmira.
- Things began to jive in the second quarter for the Purple & Gold, as they would eventually outscore the Gators 22-9. In the period, Elmira would shoot 53.3% from the floor (8-of-15), as Winston scored eight points with Jones scoring six in the frame. Elmira would begin the second on a 10-4 run over the first two and a half minutes.
- Elmira would continue to hold the advantage in points through the third and fourth quarters, eventually coming away with a 27-23 advantage in the second half. For the game, the Soaring Eagles would shoot 22-of-56 from the floor (39.3%), compared to a 15-of-51 (29.4%) effort for the Gators. After each team turned the ball over six times in the opening quarter, Elmira would be held to just nine the rest of the way to Sage's 14.
- The Soaring Eagles would lead the bench points battle 13-7, while also leading the points in the paint battle 28-16 for the contest.
