Soaring Eagles Drop Saturday Afternoon Matchup Against Nazareth

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Elmira College Men's Basketball team dropped its Saturday afternoon matchup to the Golden Flyers from Nazareth University inside Kidera Gymnasium. Elmira, who struggled out the gate, would be held to just 59 points in the loss. 

The Soaring Eagles were paced offensively by Riley Spencer '26, who finished with 13 points. Marc Anthony Artuz '24 would add 11 points, while Owen Evans '26 rounded out the double-digit scorers for Elmira with 10 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Following Elmira's first basket of the contest from Owen Evans '26 on a shot from beyond the arc to trim the EC deficit to 4-3, the Golden Flyers would spark a 13-0 run over the next four minutes of play to take a 14-point lead just over five minutes into the contest. 
  • From there, the Golden Flyers would see its lead grow to as many as 19-points just past the halfway point in the frame, before a 14-4 run for Nazareth increased the lead to 26 points with just over two minutes remaining in the opening half. 
  • In the opening half, the Soaring Eagles would shoot 10-of-28 (35.7%) from the floor, with four of its made shots coming from beyond the arc. For the home squad, Nazareth would shoot 20-of-30 (66.7%) from the floor, including a 10-of-17 effort from deep. At the half, Evans and Spencer led all Elmira scorers with eight points a piece. 
  • In the second half, the tide would continue to play in favor of the Golden Flyers, as they outscored the Soaring Eagles 62-32. 
  • For the game, the Soaring Eagles would shoot 19-of-53 (35.8%) from the floor, including a 6-of-22 effort from beyond the arc. Nazareth would finish shooting 40-of-55 (72.7%), which included an 18-of-29 effort from beyond the arc.
