EDWARDSVILLE, Pa. – After jumping out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first, the Elmira College baseball team was unable to hold onto its advantage, as a six-run bottom half of the first for the Colonels from Wilkes University would help the home team secure its victory.
Erik Charnetski '24 and Matteo Salvati '25 would help pace the Soaring Eagles on the offensive side, each collecting a pair of hits while Salvati's pair of doubles and three RBI paved the way. Additionally, Nathan Ofalt '26 recorded a hit and a pair of walks while chipping in a trio of RBI as well.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- In the top of the first, the Soaring Eagles would see Brett Warden '25, Salvati, and Charnetski all reach base without recording a hit. From there, Nicholas Lees '25 would single down the right field line, bringing home Elmira's first run of the ballgame.
- From there, Ofalt would walk with the bases loaded to put EC ahead 2-0, before a two-out walk from Xander Canfield '26 with the bases jammed would end the Elmira threat, while carrying a 3-0 lead into the bottom half of the first.
- Wilkes would get to Elmira starting pitcher Nicholas Miller '26 in the bottom half of the inning, as the sophomore would be tacked for four hits, a trio of hit by pitches, and a walk in the frame. Miller's afternoon would come to an end after 0.1 innings before Kevin McGovern '26 came on in relief. With runners inherited, McGovern would surrender a pair of runs on a single and another hit by pitch before the frame came to an end with Wilkes ahead 6-3.
- Both teams would go scoreless in the second, and Elmira in the third before a two-out single from Chase Vrabel put the Colonel ahead 7-3 against relief pitcher Matthew Schultz '26.
- The Soaring Eagles would trim its deficit to just one run in the top of the fourth, as three walks and a bases-clearing double for Salvati pulled Elmira within 7-6.
- Justin Hyde '25 would come on for Schultz in the bottom of the fourth, surrendering a pair of runs after a two-out single from Matthew Show, putting Wilkes ahead 8-6, before an error extended the lead by another run.
- Kyle Tubbs '22 would come on to finish the inning, before Jack Finnerty '23 came on to pitch the fifth.
- In the top of the fifth, Elmira would tally another after Lees, Ofalt, and Canfield all reached base via either a walk or hit by pitch. Kaden Bolt '26 would bring home a run with the bases jammed after he was hit by a pitch himself.
- Wilkes would tally another in the bottom half after Jimmy Brazofsky reached on an error, bringing home Vrabel who doubled earlier in the inning. With one out, Max Alessi would bring home Brazofsky on a sacrifice fly, increasing Wilkes' lead to four.
- After a scoreless next two innings, Elmira would tally two in the top of the eighth after Ofalt singled with a pair of runners on, scoring Brady Buttice '26 and Salvati to trim the Soaring Eagle deficit to 11-9.
- Wilkes would then go on to score two of its own in the bottom half, following RBIs from Nathan Loch (single) and Mike Show (ground out).
- In all, the contest featured ten hit batsmen and 15 walks between the teams.
