ONEONTA, N.Y. – After scoring twice in the top of the first inning, the Elmira College baseball team gave up 11 unanswered runs and dropped its game at SUNY Oneonta, 11-4. The Soaring Eagles went without a hit through the middle seven innings, finishing the day with four.
Matteo Salvati '25 ended the game with two RBI hits and a run scored while drawing a walk.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
	- The Soaring Eagles got on the board early thanks to an RBI single from Salvati in the top of the first inning, driving in Brett Warden '25. Salvati scored on a wild pitch later in the inning to give the Soaring Eagles a 2-0 lead.
- The Red Dragons answered in the bottom of the second, notching a two-run single before adding another run on a wild pitch. SUNY Oneonta scored once more before the end of the inning, driving in a run on an RBI triple.
- Oneonta added to its lead in the bottom of the third inning when a pair of walks came around to score on a two-run double, giving the hosts a 6-2 advantage at the end of the third.
- Elmira looked to cut into the deficit in the following inning after Ryan Trenholm '25 and Warden reached on back-to-back hit-by-pitches with one out. However, a fielder's choice and a popout to first ended the inning, and Elmira stranded two runners on base.
- Jack Finnerty '23 took over on the mound for the Soaring Eagles in the bottom of the fifth, tossing a pair of 1-2-3 innings while striking out two Red Dragons.
- The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the sixth when SUNY Oneonta had a pair of runners reach base with two outs in the inning. The Red Dragons then singled home a run to make it a 7-2 ballgame.
- Elmira gave up four more runs in the bottom of the seventh, with Oneonta scoring on a passed ball and three RBI doubles, bringing the score to 11-2 entering the final two innings.
- EC got back on the scoreboard in the top of the ninth when Sean Deaner '26 drove in AJ Ramirez '27 for Elmira's third run of the game. Salvati followed that up with an RBI single of his own, bringing home Warden to make it 11-4. However, the Soaring Eagles could not add anything else, and the game ended in an 11-4 loss.
- Finnerty tossed three innings of one-run ball for Elmira.
