Lints Cements All-American Campaign with Fifth-Place Finish at NCWWC Nationals for Women’s Wrestling

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA – A victory in the fifth-place match on Saturday cemented Zoey Lints '27 place in the records books for the Elmira College women's wrestling program as she becomes the highest-placing member at the NCWWC National Championships for the Soaring Eagles.

Lints went 4-2 overall at the tournament and 2-1 on the second day of action at the national tournament for the Purple & Gold. Lints joins teammate Skylah Chakouian '25 as the only All-American wrestler's in program history after Chakouian notched an eighth-place finish during her freshman campaign in 2021-22.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • A matchup against Erica Schroeder from Colorado Mesa would open the day for Lints, who would dispatch her opponent with a fall in a time of 55 seconds.
  • The victory would move Lints into the consolation semi-finals and set up a bout against the top-ranked wrestler in the country at 143 pounds. North Central's Alara Boyd would respond from an upset in the championship round with a pin of Lints at the 1:07 mark of the bout.
  • In the fifth-place bout, Lints matched up against Yasmine Oliveira from King University and needed just 25 seconds to secure a takedown of her opponent to secure her top-five finish in her first trip to the NCWWC National Championships.
  • Lints finished her tournament run for the Purple & Gold with three falls and one victory via decision while dropping her two bouts against the No. 1 and No. 2 ranked wrestlers in the country from Iowa and North Central.
  • Lints also finished the tournament ranked seventh with three pins in a total time of 2:57 as her three pins were the third-most as Brittyn Corbishley (North Central) and Samara Chavez (King) recorded five falls each.
