HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Elmira's first chance came in the top of the second inning when Katie Distefano '24 and Hannah Flagg '24 reached on singles but were left stranded as the inning ended without a score.
- The Soaring Eagles were unable to get multiple runners on base for the remainder of the seven innings, and the game went into an eighth inning with neither team having scored a run.
- Dawe was placed on second base to begin extra innings, while Olivia Roccabruna '27 started the inning with a walk. Asia Curkendall '25 laid down a sacrifice bunt to move the runners before the Purple & Gold got their first run of the contest when Jocelyn Jean '27 singled to right field, driving in Dawe. Brianna Ramstine '25 drove in another on a sacrifice fly, giving Elmira a 2-0 lead. However, that was all the runs EC scored in the inning.
- The Soaring Eagles gave up three unearned runs in the bottom half of the inning and fell to the Hawks 3-2.
- The second game saw both teams scoreless through the first two innings before Elmira plated four in the top of the third. The scoring started when Jean drove in Curkendall on a base hit to left field. Ramstine followed up with a single of her own, bringing home Distefano. Jean and Ramstine came around to score on a pair of Hawk errors, giving the Soaring Eagles a 4-0 lead.
- Elmira followed up their four-run fourth by scoring five in the fifth inning. Curkendall started things off with a one-out single before advancing to second on a stolen base. She came around to score on an error for her second run of the contest. Later in the inning, Distefano scored on a wild pitch, making it a 6-0 ballgame before Belmont tripled to center field, driving in two Soaring Eagles. Riley Storrs '27 brought Belmont to the plate with an RBI single, giving the Purple & Gold a 9-0 lead.
- That would be all the runs Elmira would need, as Sobel went on to pitch two perfect innings, striking out three and sealing the victory for the Soaring Eagles.
