Soaring Eagles Slip-Up in Saturday Doubleheader against Russell Sage

AMSTERDAM, N.Y. – The Elmira College baseball program dropped both ends of a doubleheader against Russell Sage College on Saturday from Shuttleworth Park as the Gators rallied for a 7-4 victory in game one before scoring early and often for a 15-8 victory in game two.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Both teams would score a run in the second inning of game one as Matteo Salvati '25 scored on an error by the Gators' first baseman.
  • The Soaring Eagles would grab their second lead of the contest in the top of the third inning as Nathan Ofalt '26 connected on his first home run of the season with a pair of runners on base to make it 4-1.
  • Russell Sage rallied with three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to knot the score 4-4 and followed with three more runs in the fifth inning to gain a 7-4 advantage.
  • Jack Finnerty '23 allowed six runs off seven hits through four innings of work on the mound for Elmira, while Kyle Tubbs '22 tossed the final two frames for the Soaring Eagles.
  • Elmira opened the scoring in the top of the first inning of game two as Brett Warden '25 delivered a single that scored Kaden Bolt '26 to make it 1-0.
  • The Gators would go on to score six runs in the first inning, followed by three runs in the second inning and three more in the third inning.
  • Erik Charnetski '24 connected on his sixth home run of the season with a 2-run shot in the fourth inning and followed with his seventh of the season and second of the contest with another 2-run shot in the eighth inning.
  • Charnetski added a run-scoring single in the fifth inning for EC, while Salvati and Ofalt each recorded run-scoring hits in the seventh inning for the Purple & Gold.
  • Warden finished the second game with four hits and three runs scored for EC, while Charnetski tallied five RBI and three runs scored to go along with his three hits. Brennan Goin '26 worked 2.2 scoreless innings of relief out of the bullpen, while Logan Pizzullo '25 tossed two scoreless frames to close the contest for Elmira.
