HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Soaring Eagles began the first game by getting runners on first and second base in the first inning after walks to Asia Curkendall '25 and Kaitlyn Belmont '24. However, both were stranded, and EC went scoreless in the opening frame.
  • The Cardinals scored in each of the first two innings, plating two runs on an RBI groundout and single to take a 2-0 lead.
  • The Purple & Gold cut the deficit to one in the top of the third, scoring its first run on a Distefano single to left field that drove in Curkendall. However, that was all Elmira could do in the inning, and they entered the bottom of the third trailing 2-1.
  • St. John Fisher responded by scoring three runs in the following half inning, with one coming via a solo home run.
  • After Elmira went down in order in the top of the fourth, the Cardinals put up six more runs in the bottom of the inning, taking an 11-1 lead that they would maintain for the remainder of the contest.
  • The second game began with the hosts plating a pair of runs on an RBI single in the bottom of the first to take an early 2-0 lead. The Cardinals would score four more in the bottom of the second inning to grow their lead to eight.
  • The Soaring Eagles went down in order in each of the first three innings, failing to register a hit until the fourth when Distefano broke through once again, singling up the middle to drive in Hannah Colwill '27, who had opened the inning with a walk and stolen base.
  • St. John Fisher got the run back in the following frame, scoring its ninth run of the ballgame on an RBI double to left-center field.
  • Despite Brianna Ramstine '25 leading off the fifth with a base hit and stolen base, Elmira could not bring her home, and the game ended in five innings with a 9-1 loss.
  • Curkendall drew a pair of walks to go along with a stolen base in the first game.
