Baseball Unable to Solve Cardinals Pitching on Sunday Afternoon

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The Soaring Eagles offense was stymied through 14 innings of baseball at the hands of the St. John Fisher University Cardinals on Sunday in an Empire 8 Conference doubleheader at Dugan Yard. The Cardinals recorded a 4-0 victory in the opener before notching an 11-0 victory in seven innings of game two.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Cardinals plated three runs in the bottom of the second inning following a double with the bases loaded.
  • Elmira looked to trim the deficit on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth inning as the Soaring Eagles would load the bases against the Cardinals. Nathan Ofalt '26 delivered a single with one out in the frame and would later steal second base followed by third base.
  • Jacob Parker '25 and Sean Deaner '26 followed with a pair of walks to load the bases before Xander Canfield '26 struck out swinging to end the threat.
  • St. John Fisher added another run in the bottom of the fifth inning to stretch its advantage to 4-0 following a single through the left side into left field.
  • Despite working six innings on the mound for Elmira, David Kruis '23 was handed the loss after allowing four runs off four hits while adding nine strikeouts.
  • St. John Fisher scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning of game two and would score all of its 11 runs through the opening four innings against the Soaring Eagles. The Cardinals opened the score in the bottom of the third inning as six runs would cross the plate to extend the lead to 9-0.
  • Matteo Salvati '25 paced the Soaring Eagles at the plate with a pair of hits, including a double. Brett Warden '25 also notched a double in the contest, while Deaner and Bryan Jimenez '25 each recorded a hit.
  • Canfield was dealt the loss on the mound for Elmira, while Erik Berkan '27 and Michael Millross '24 each tossed a clean inning of relief out of the bullpen.
 
UP NEXT:
The Soaring Eagles are scheduled to host Houghton University for a three-game series at the Holding Point, beginning with a single game on Friday at 3:00 P.M. followed by a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1:00 P.M.
