Curkendall Collects 15 Helpers for Soaring Eagles on Saturday

ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Soaring Eagles began the second half of their quad-match weekend with two more losses at the hands of Alfred State and Smith College. Senior Asia Curkendall '25 paced the Soaring Eagles with 15 assists in the double-header. Senior Morgan Richardson '25 led the way for Elmira with 11 total kills.

HOW IT HAPPENED (ELMIRA vs. ALFRED STATE):

  • Racquel Gerstenberger and Alayna Tomlinson each notched nine kills in the first match for Alfred State. Nayomie Ferrer chipped in with 27 assists, setting up Gerstenberger and Tomlinson plenty of times en route to the Pioneers' first win. 
  • On the Elmira side, Richardson's eight kills led the team. Curkendall also registered a kill in the match for EC. Madi Conti '28 and Makenna Clark '25 compiled four and two kills, respectively. Clark's four service aces tied a season-high set in the Soaring Eagles' first match last night. 
  • Gabriela Rodriguez '28 was strong on the defensive, digging out 10 attacks from the Pioneers. 
 

HOW IT HAPPENED (ELMIRA vs. SMITH):

  • In the final match of the weekend, Conti's five kills led the Soaring Eagles. Clark and Richardson totaled seven kills, with four being credited to Clark and three to Richardson. 
  • Curkendall's six assists was one more than Erin Bracken '28, who notched five in her first weekend of collegiate volleyball action. Rodriguez had the only other assist for EC in the match. 
  • Clark and Rodriguez also notched a service ace each. On the Smith side, Ari Cross's 11 kills led the team. Not far behind was Olivia Teske with nine kills of her own. 
  • Ruby Woodward's 19 assists led Smith and Teske's five service aces were more than any other player in the match. 
 

LOOKING AHEAD:

Next weekend, EC travels to SUNY Cobleskill for another quad match, this time featuring SUNY Cobleskill, SUNY Potsdam, and Smith. The Soaring Eagles' first match is slated for 5:00 PM on Friday against SUNY Cobleskill before a doubleheader on Saturday. Game one begins at 10:00 AM against Smith before the finale at 2:00 PM against SUNY Potsdam.
