MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Soaring Eagles grabbed a 1-0 lead through 20 minutes of action, but it wouldn't be enough as the Western New England Golden Bears rallied with two goals in the second period to defeat the Elmira College women's ice hockey team 2-1 in the championship game of the Mustang Cup at SUNY Morrisville.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Elmira opened the scoring in the contest as Anna Lugge '27 found the back of the net at the 13:33 mark of the first period. The assists on Lugge's goal would be credited to Erika Goleniak '25 and Bri Conger '27.
- The Soaring Eagles continued to control the pace of play in the second period until the Golden Bears netted the equalizer at the 3:53 mark as Allison Walker knotted the score 1-1. The contest remained tied until Western New England manufactured its second goal of the period at 16:29 to take a 2-1 lead.
- Elmira looked to knot the score in the third period but couldn't put another puck past the Golden Bears' netminder Kayla Ireland. Ireland recorded 16 saves in the third period and finished the contest with 42 saves on 43 shots faced.
- The Golden Bears finished the contest 0-for-3 on the power play, while Elmira had just one power play opportunity in the third period, which was unsuccessful. Sophie Compeau '25 paced Elmira with 12 faceoff wins, while Iliana Smith '27 added seven faceoff wins for the Soaring Eagles.
UP NEXT: The Soaring Eagles return to the Murray Athletic Center for a pair of NEHC contests on January 17-18 against the conference-leading UMass Boston Beacons. Puck drop on Friday is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
