Women’s Hockey Blanks UMass Boston at Home 5-0 to Complete Weekend Sweep

PINE VALLEY, N.Y. – The Elmira College women's ice hockey program recorded its fourth shutout of the season as the Soaring Eagles completed a weekend sweep following a 5-0 victory against the UMass Boston Beacons at the Murray Athletic Center on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • It would take just 11 seconds for No. 11 McKenzie Schmidt '25 to get the Soaring Eagles onto the scoreboard against the Beacons as Sophie Compeau '25 provided the assist to make it 1-0.
  • The Soaring Eagles would add to their lead later in the first period as Compeau netted her first goal of the contest at the 10:48 mark to make it 2-0. Sophie Gregory '26 and MK Boyle '26 tallied the assists on Compeau's goal.
  • Compeau would strike in the final minute of the first period to push the Elmira lead to 3-0 as Gabby Dougherty '26 set up Compeau's second goal of the contest.
  • The Soaring Eagles netted a power-play goal at the 10:17 mark of the second period to extend the lead to 4-0 as Dougherty found the back of the net with the assist being credited to Emily Lenzen '24.
  • Elmira would close the scoring at the 12:43 mark of the second period as Abby Eselunas '28 made it 5-0, with Sabrina Shvartsman '25 and Katie Manning '25 providing the assists.
  • Sara Sevcikova '28 notched her second win of the weekend and improved to 6-1-0 on the season for the Soaring Eagles after stopping each of the nine shots that she faced. Elmira also won 33 faceoffs in the contest and held a 49-9 advantage in shots on goal.

The Soaring Eagles take to the road next weekend for a pair of NEHC contests against the Salve Regina University Seahawks on Friday and Saturday.
