Soaring Eagles Blanked on Saturday in 1-0 Setback against Salve Regina

MIDDLETOWN, RI – The Elmira College women's ice hockey team was shut out for just the third time this season as the Salve Regina Seahawks recorded a 1-0 victory against the Soaring Eagles on Saturday in New England Hockey Conference Action.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • There would be no scoring in the first period of action between the Soaring Eagles and Seahawks. Elmira would have a power play opportunity at the 14:44 mark of the period and recorded four shots but would not be able to find the back of the net.
  • Salve Regina opened the scoring for the second straight contest as the Seahawks took a 1-0 lead at the 3:20 mark of the second period, with Riley Esposito finding the back of the net.
  • Elmira had two more chances on the power play in the second period but would be denied both times in an attempt to try and knot the score.
  • The Soaring Eagles penalty kill unit was called upon four times in the third period, and Elmira successfully killed each one to keep the game at one goal. Elmira also had a power play chance early in the third period but would not register any shots on goal.
  • Sara Sevcikova '28 stopped 14 of the 15 shots that she faced between the pipes for the Soaring Eagles. Elmira was unable to solve Salve Regina goaltender Taylor Hannafan, who stopped all 37 shots by the Purple & Gold.
  • The Seahawks finished the contest with 15 blocked shots, while the Soaring Eagles registered six blocked shots.
 


UP NEXT: The Soaring Eagles will welcome back their alumni next weekend as Elmira hosts NEHC foe William Smith College on Friday and Saturday at the Murray Athletic Center.
