Soaring Eagles Open 2025 with 6-3 Victory against Hamilton

CLINTON, N.Y. – The Elmira College women's ice hockey program opened 2025 with a 6-3 victory on the road as the Soaring Eagles defeated the Hamilton College Continentals in a non-conference matchup at Russell Sage Rink.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The scoring would be opened at the 6:46 mark of the first period as Alayna Toole '26 found the back of the net for the Soaring Eagles. The assists would go to Emily Lenzen '24 and Annie Audet '28.
  • Hamilton answered just 13 seconds later with the equalizer as Lydia Bullock lit the lamp at the 6:59 mark. Elmira grabbed its second lead of the frame as Lenzen tallied her first goal of the contest at the 11:55 mark to make it 2-1. The assists would go to Toole and Gabby Dougherty '26.
  • McKenzie Schmidt '25 would give the Purple & Gold a 3-1 advantage 13 seconds into the second period as Sophie Compeau '25 and MK Boyle '26 added the assists.
  • The Continentals trimmed the deficit to 3-2 at the 9:12 mark of the period as Lilly Truchon found the back of the net. Late in the frame, Iliana Smith '27 would net her first goal for the Soaring Eagles to make it a 4-2 contest.
  • Elmira added to its lead at the 9:54 mark of the third period as Anna Lugge '27 gave the Soaring Eagles a 5-3 advantage. Hamilton would answer with a goal at the 16:37 mark of the period to trim the deficit to 5-3 as Abby Weiss lit the lamp.
  • Lugge closed the Purple & Gold scoring with an empty-net goal for her second of the afternoon at the 18:39 mark of the third period.
  • Sara Sevcikova '28 recorded the win between the pipes for Elmira as she finished the contest with 25 saves on 28 shots. In net for Hamilton, Evie Sheridan finished with 23 saves on 28 shots faced. Elmira finished the contest 0-for-1 with the lone power-play opportunity and recorded nine blocked shots.
 
UP NEXT: The Soaring Eagles travel to Morrisville, New York, to take part in the Mustang Cup as Elmira battles Nazareth on January 10 beginning at 2:00 p.m.
