Soaring Eagles Drop Pair of Saturday Afternoon Matches Inside Speidel Gymnasium

ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Elmira College women's volleyball team continued Empire 8 play on Saturday afternoon, falling to Houghton University in straight sets (15–25, 16–25, 14–25) inside Speidel Gymnasium before dropping its evening match against against Pitt-Bradford:

HOW IT HAPPENED (Elmira vs. Houghton)

  • The Soaring Eagles showed resilience throughout the match, pushing the Highlanders (8–5, 3–0 E8) in several extended rallies. Morgan Sica '28 led the Elmira attack with eight kills while hitting .429, pacing the offense across all three sets.
  • First-year Gabriella Rustine '26 contributed four kills, while Aimee Bridges '29 and Erin Bracken '28 each tallied four and two kills, respectively. Alyson Hagberg '26 directed the offense with 13 assists and a pair of service aces, while Julie Smith '28 and Gabriela Rodriguez '26 anchored the back row with 10 digs apiece.
  • Houghton hit .259 as a team and received strong performances from Alexa Belanger (11 kills, .450 hitting) and Praylan Perkins (10 kills, .261 hitting).
 

HOW IT HAPPENED (Elmira vs. Pitt-Bradford)

  • The Soaring Eagles  battled through several close rallies early in each set, but the Panthers' offensive consistency proved too much to overcome. Pitt-Bradford (13–7, 0–0 AMCC) hit an impressive .293 as a team, while Elmira was held to a -.025 attack percentage.
  • Pitt-Bradford was led by Alycia Wilson, who tallied 10 kills on .450 hitting and added three service aces. Lilly Bentley and Jenna Louser chipped in eight and six kills, respectively, while setter Marissa Bowman dished out 26 assists and contributed two aces and three digs. Defensively, Danielle Sasuga recorded a team-high eight digs, and the Panthers totaled 13 service aces in the match.
  • For Elmira, Rustine paced the offense with four kills, while  Bridges and Doolittle each added three. Hagberg ran the offense with 10 assists and eight digs, while Rodriguez added eight digs.
