Men's Ice Hockey Nets One in Vigorous Match Against No. 1 Hobart

ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Elmira College men's ice hockey team opened their season inside the Murray Athletic Center with a tough matchup against No. 1 ranked Hobart. The Soaring Eagles battled their way through a gruesome match, but fell just short of the mark 3-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Soaring Eagles played a tiring, evenly knit first period against the Statesmen.
  • Hobart took a 1-0 lead over Elmira in the second period at the 11:01 mark to open the offensive end. A strong defensive clinic saw the Soaring Eagles render them scoreless through the remainder of the second period.
  • Early in the third period, a trio of penalty's saw the Statesmen collect their second goal of the evening for a 2-0 advantage over the Soaring Eagles. Hobart collected their third and final goal of the match with 1:58 remaining in the match. 
  • Elmira buckled down and saw Stephan McDonald '27 net his first goal of the season within twenty seconds of Hobart's final goal to cut the deficit, 3-1.
  • In the final minute of play, Lucas Stevenson '28 and Brennan Boyce '28 both took shots that were just shy of the goal to see Hobart collect their first win of the season.
  • Brody Hanes stood tall in net for the Soaring Eagles, recording 35 saves during the match. 
 
UP NEXT: The Soaring Eagles will hit the road tomorrow to face No. 1 Hobart for a second time. The match is set for 4:00 PM.
