PINE VALLEY, N.Y. – The Elmira College men's ice hockey team hosted St. John Fisher for the first matchup in program history. An intense offensive battle saw the Soaring Eagles open UCHC play with a 3-2 victory over the Cardinals. Goals from

Seth Ferguson were paired with Brody Hanes gloving 21 shots to secure the win.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
The Soaring Eagles opened the scoring midway through the first period of play, seeing McDonald take the puck himself for a 1-0 advantage over the Cardinals. Within minutes, Elmira netted their second goal of the evening off the stick of
Owen Halloran and
Jake Terra picking up the assist. The Purple & Gold held a 2-0 lead at the end of the first period.
The Cardinals looked to net the equalizer during the second period, seeing them cut the deficit to one courtesy of Wyatt Swonger. Teammates Leyton Pettypiece and Sam Ciappa picked up the assists.
With the second period ending, Elmira struck once again for their third and final goal of the evening on a power-play opportunity.

A defensively charge third period saw the Cardinals outshooting Elmira 11 to eight. The Soaring Eagles recorded four blocked shots while St. John Fisher tallied seven blocks. The final period of play was evenly contested until the Cardinals netted their final goal in the final thirty seconds. In the final remaining seconds, the Soaring Eagles held the Cardinals at bay to secure the 3-2 victory.
