PINE VALLEY, N.Y.- The Elmira College men's hockey team hosted the Wilkes University Colonels in a non-conference matchup Saturday evening. The Soaring Eagles fell in a 7-3 loss.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
The Colonels hit the scoreboard first off the stick of forward Matt Carlson. The Soaring Eagles wasted no time as Makai Tarjamo buried a rebound thirty seconds later to level it. It was a back-and-forth period with both exchanging chances until a shorthanded 2-on-1 for EC saw Tyler Schwindt score off an assist from Seth Ferguson to send them into the dressing room, up by one.
Wilkes started the period off strong with a one-time blast to equalize before quickly following it up with a power play goal. The Soaring Eagles looked for a response, finding it from Corbin Melie's shot from the point to beat the Colonels netminder, 3-3. Wilkes regained the lead on a power play goal from Carlson, his second of the night, leaving EC trailing 4-3 after two periods.
The Colonels extended their lead two minutes into the final frame on a power play goal by Christian Blomquist. Elmira tried to battle back, but could not find the back of the net. With another power play opportunity, Wilkes pulled ahead 6-3 to create a larger deficit. The Colonels continued their aggression of offense as they found their seventh and the final goal of the game halfway through the period. The Soaring Eagles were unable to respond, seeing Wilkes come out on top 7-3.
