PINE VALLEY, N.Y. – The Elmira College women's ice hockey program honored the Class of 2025 on Saturday as the Soaring Eagles recorded a 4-1 victory against the William Smith College Herons at the Murray Athletic Center.
McKenzie Schmidt '25 finished with two goals and two assists, while
Sabrina Shvartsman '25 added a power-play goal for Elmira.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Soaring Eagles would open the scoring in the first period as McKenzie Schmidt '25 tallied her third goal of the weekend at the 11:22 mark to put the Purple & Gold up 1-0. Anna Lugge '27 and Erika Goleniak '25 provided the assists for EC.
- Elmira doubled its advantage at the 12:52 mark of the second period as Sabrina Shvartsman '25 put home a loose puck in front of the goalkeeper to make it 2-0. Shvartsman's power-play tally would be assisted by Schmidt and Gabby Dougherty '26.
- The lead for the Soaring Eagles would be pushed to 3-0 as Lugge blasted home a one-timer from the slot at the 15:37 mark of the second period. Schmidt added her second helper of the night as she found Lugge open in the slot.
- William Smith broke up the shutout bid late in the third period with a goal at the 17:13 mark to make it 3-1. With the goaltender pulled in the final minute of the contest, Schmidt found the puck on her stick and tallied her second goal of the night to make it 4-1.
- Elmira goalkeeper Emily Finach '25 recorded her third win of the season for the Soaring Eagles as she finished with 22 saves on 23 shots, including 10 saves in the final frame. William Smith netminder Mia Iwicki finished with 33 saves on 36 shots.
UP NEXT: The Soaring Eagles are back in action on February 7-8 with a pair of NEHC contests against Albertus Magnus in New Haven, Connecticut.
