Three Third-Period Goals Too Much for Soaring Eagles in 5-2 Loss

NORWICH, VT – The Elmira College Soaring Eagles began their final road trip of the regular season with a 5-2 loss at the hands of the Norwich Cadets after allowing three goals in the third period.

JUST THE BASICS:
SCORE: Elmira 2, Norwich 5
LOCATION: Northfield, VT| Kreitzberg Arena
RECORDS: Elmira (11-9-2, 8-8-1 NEHC), Norwich (11-8-3, 10-5-2 NEHC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Cadets led 2-1 after the first period after Collin Elliott and Ben van Waterschoot tallied goals. The Soaring Eagles got a marker from Ryan Reifler '24 in between Norwich goals. Nathan Young '25 gained an assist on Reifler's goal.

99 seconds into the middle frame, Seth Ferguson '28 scored off a feed from Myles Yearwood '28. Ferguson's goal snapped a 12-game goalless drought and was his first point since Jan. 17 against UMASS Boston.

After the rest of the period went scoreless, the Soaring Eagles and Cadets went into the second break knotted at two.

An even-strength five-on-five goal from Holden Doggett, a power-play goal from Cooper Bertrand, and an empty-net goal in the third put the Soaring Eagles away.

The Cadets capitalized on two of their three power-play opportunities.

Kyle Curtin '26 took the loss for EC, stopping 33 of 37 shots, while Bryce Walcarius turned away 22 of 24 shots.
