RUTLAND, VT. – Behind the strength of three power-play goals and a hat-trick from
Emily Lenzen '24, the Elmira College women's ice hockey team pushed its winning streak to five games with a 6-2 victory on Friday against the VTSU Castleton Spartans at Spartan Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Alayna Toole '26 opened the scoring at the 12:18 mark of the first period for the Soaring Eagles as Erika Goleniak '25 and Anna Lugge '27 were credited with the assists. Less than a minute later, McKenzie Schmidt '25 made it 2-0 for the Purple & Gold after taking a feed from Emily Lenzen '24.
- The Spartans would tally a goal in the final two minutes of the period as Alex Johnson found the back of the net off an assist from Rachel McNeil at the 18:11 mark.
- Elmira extended its advantage to 3-1 at the 15:53 mark of the second period with a power-play tally from Lenzen. Annie Audet '28 and Sarah Waszkielewicz '26 both added helpers on Lenzen's first of the night.
- Lenzen notched her second goal of the contest at the 16:15 mark of the second period to stretch the Elmira lead to 4-1 as she redirected a shot from Schmidt past the goaltender. Gaby Matson '28 was credited with the secondary assist on Lenzen's tally.
- The Soaring Eagles tallied their second power-play goal just 25 seconds into the third period as Sophie Gregory '26 recorded her first collegiate goal and extended the advantage for the Purple & Gold to 5-1. Castleton's Johnson netted her second goal for the Spartans at the 5:07 mark to trim the deficit to 5-2.
- Lenzen completed her hat-trick with a power-play goal at the 10:04 mark of the third period as the Soaring Eagles finished the contest 3-for-5 with the extra skater.
- Elmira goalkeeper Sara Sevcikova '28 recorded the win between the pipes for the Soaring Eagles as she finished with 15 saves on 17 shots. Lenzen recorded four points for the Purple & Gold, while Schmidt, Lugge, and Gabby Dougherty '26 each added a pair of assists.
